About the Client

Gibraltar, a global leader in sustainable innovation, has been pushing the boundaries of manufacturing since 1972. Their diverse portfolio includes solutions for food production, residential solutions, renewable energy, infrastructure development, and enhancing everyday living.

This particular case study focuses on their gutter and weather protection solutions business.

Business Challenges

The client embarked on a strategic initiative to modernize its enterprise technology landscape by adopting Oracle Fusion Cloud applications and Oracle CPQ solutions.

A key challenge was the modernization of their legacy awning manufacturing process. This process involved complex calculations and instructions for fabric types, colors, fixture dimensions, and more. The existing Visual Basic (VB)-based application, though operational for nearly two decades, required significant maintenance and was vulnerable to resource constraints due to its age and specialized skill set.

To align with their modernization goals, the organization recognized the urgent need to replace the legacy VB application with a cloud-native PaaS solution. This would not only streamline the manufacturing process but also enhance scalability, flexibility, and futureproofing.

The Solution

To address the limitations of the legacy VB application, the client leveraged the power of Oracle Cloud Platform.

A modern, cloud-native Oracle Fusion PaaS solution was developed to replace the outdated system. This new solution offers several key advantages:

  • Advanced Search Capabilities - The solution provides sophisticated search mechanisms to efficiently identify work orders ready for processing. Users can search by sales order, work order, or batch number.
  • Consolidated Information - It seamlessly retrieves and consolidates crucial information from various sources, including work instructions from Oracle CPQ and sales orders and work orders from Oracle Fusion applications.
  • Automated Data Generation - The solution automates the generation of .DAT files, which are essential for driving the fabric and valance cutter machines.
  • Integration - The application seamlessly integrates with Oracle Fusion Cloud applications suite.

Business Outcomes

  • The client has recorded significant improvements in operational efficiency due to streamlined manufacturing processes, reduced manual intervention, and minimized errors.
  • The application provides real-world feedback on its performance, allowing the client to quickly resolve issues and implement new improvements.
  • The cloud-native architecture of the solution ensures scalability, enabling the client to accommodate future changes smoothly.
  • As the solution process is not drastically different from the VB tool, user acceptance and onboarding were rapid. In fact, the new advanced features were very well received.
