Business Challenges
BBB Industries faced several critical challenges:
- Their aging infrastructure was reaching its end of life, posing significant risks to their operations.
- The company needed to extend the lifespan of their Oracle E-Business Suite to maintain business continuity and avoid costly disruptions.
- Reducing the operational costs associated with multiple colocation facilities was a key priority.
To prolong the lifecycle of Oracle E-Business Suite and establish a robust disaster recovery and business continuity strategy, BBB Industries initiated a migration project. This initiative aimed to reduce operational costs by consolidating multiple colocation facilities.
The Project Approach
A phased migration approach was adopted. In the initial phase, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS) was employed to seamlessly transition VMware workloads to the cloud. Subsequently, in the second phase, these workloads were migrated to OCI native environments, leveraging cloud-native technologies to further improve operational efficiency and uptime.
Phase 1: Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS) Migration
- A comprehensive migration strategy was developed, following Oracle's recommended OCVS infrastructure design.
- The OCVS environment was provisioned and configured within OCI.
- Existing VMware workloads were migrated to the OCVS environment.
- The migration was finalized, and ongoing support was established for the OCVS infrastructure.
Phase 2: OCI Native Migration
- The target OCI native infrastructure architecture was defined, including VCN, DRG, and routing configurations.
- Native OCI infrastructure components were provisioned and configured.
- VMware workloads were migrated from OCVS to the native OCI environment.
- The migration was completed, and ongoing support was established for the native OCI infrastructure.
Business Outcomes
- A significant reduction was registered in the total cost of ownership by migrating to OCI.
- The migration resulted in a 4-5x performance boost, streamlining processes and accelerating business operations.
- OCI's robust security features, including virtual cloud networks and separate subnets, enhanced the protection of sensitive data.
- The migration simplified processes for dispersed lines of business, improving efficiency and productivity.
- The ability to develop critical new functionalities for the EBS environment enabled the company to stay ahead of the curve.
- The powerful autonomous database offered good performance improvement and automated routine database tasks.
- The migration unlocked new user experiences, including digital assistants, improved data preparation, and advanced visualization capabilities.
